Triumph of the Will / The Warriors

After recently watching the Triumph of the Will clips in class it made me want to blog about a cult classic movie called 'The Warriors,' from 1979.  It is the first thing that came to my mind after watching Hitler give his speeches to the youth.  I apologize for the lack luster quality of video and it's length.  I wish I could have found a better one.  These lack the intro before the leader 'Cyrus' makes his way out to his shack of a tower.  Before his appearance are many camera shots panning over the anxiously waiting gang members.  I thought this related well to the way it panned through the Hitler Youth showing their anxious arrival of their great leader.  Keep in mind, these gang members are youth as well, kids with no foundation to grow on hoping for something better.  Cyrus, is supposed to be the guy to change it all.  The man to unify the gangs and take over the city.  Once he gets up on his stage the people go silent and there are a few cheers supporting him.  After a short while into his speech after he gives the punch line and throws his hands up into the air (another instance that could relate to Hitler's salute of recognition) "Can you dig it?!," the crowd erupts in unison, all in support of this new leader.  The camera pans threw the many faces of the crowd as did Hitler's camera crew of the youth.  I know it is not a direct relation, but I see a lot of similarities in the two and wouldn't doubt that there was some sort of inspiration from Triumph of the Will.  A struggling youth in search of a grander purpose, a strong and well spoken leader, the camera angles, and the emotion brought about.  Again I apologize for the poor clips, I wish I could have found better ones of the whole scene.  If you haven't seen this cult classic I would recommend it.

  1. Great comparison between “The Warriors” and “Triumph of the Will”. I have never seen that movie, but I definitely see the similarities between the two films just from those clips. I agree that “Triumph of the Will” could have influenced the directors for “The Warriors”.

    4 out of 5.
